On May 31, 2023, the City of Greater Sudbury held a new round of invitations and considered 24 candidates under RNIP Sudbury draw for the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP). The lowest score of these draws was 260 points, the same as in the previous draw. Last year, Sudbury invited a total of 154 applicants. Since the program’s launch, the city has recommended at least 321 individuals under the RNIP.  So far, the city has considered 121 candidates in 2023. Ontario has the most trucking job vacancies in Canada

New Brunswick Nurses Association announced streamlining the registration process

New Brunswick Nurses Association has announced that the registration process for internationally educated nurses from 14 countries will be expedited. This will cut the time to become registered to work in the province from 12-18 months to as few as 14 days for nurses from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Hong Kong, India, Philippines, United Arab Emirates, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Morocco, and Lebanon.  The association will continue to authenticate identification, initial registration, and education to mitigate the risk of fraudulent nurses entering the healthcare system. Some nurses may be required to complete additional training. All nurses must complete an entry-to-practice examination. The National Nurses Assessment Service (NNAS), according to Denise LeBlanc-Kwaw, CEO of the Nurses Association of New Brunswick, will handle this through an easier process requiring fewer documents. This, according to her, will lead to a “24-hour turnaround for the NNAS process that’s going to authenticate their ID, their verification of registration in their home country, as well as their education.” She stated that after that, the nurses must get registered within 14 days. Paula Doucet, president of the New Brunswick Nurses Union, said in an email that while this was good news, the NCLEX exam requirement “could present a potential stumbling block.” Doucet noted the fact that New Brunswick lacks a permanent NCLEX testing site, unlike its neighbor Nova Scotia. Because exam slots fill up quickly, some nurses must wait, which slows down the registration process. LeBlanc-Kwaw responded, “We’d be in a stronger position to negotiate for a more permanent site here (in New Brunswick) now that we’re boosting our capacity for globally educated nurses as well as our present domestic nurses. The exam won’t cause delays, in her view. Many of our global (nurses) have already taken the NCLEX because it is now a North American norm and is accessible worldwide on multiple websites, so there shouldn’t be much of a problem, she added. Since 2022, francophone nurses have had the option of completing the nursing admission test for Quebec rather than the NCLEX. Canada launched a new selection category under Express Entry

On May 31, 2023, the Government of Canada launched a new selection category under Express Entry, allowing IRCC to invite prospective permanent residents with specific skills, training, or language ability.  This year, invitations will focus on candidates with strong French language proficiency or experience in:  healthcare,  STEM professions,  trades,  transport,  agriculture, and  agri-food.  Category-based selection supports Canada’s commitment to welcoming skilled workers into communities nationwide.  In June 2022, Canada changed the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act to select immigrants based on key economic attributes, such as work experience and French knowledge. The minister claims that by allowing IRCC to extend more invites to eligible persons in these specific professions, Canada will be able to achieve its goal of luring in-demand workers to all of its regions. The new categories’ first draws are expected to begin later this summer.  The new categories are intended to fill open posts across Canada, in addition to increasing the use of French in communities of French descent outside of Quebec.    Why are new Express Entry categories being added? The new categories were created to fill opportunities across Canada. Immigration is viewed as a key factor in addressing the labor shortage and elevating the status of the French language in communities of French descent outside of Quebec. Fraser says, “Employers across the country are complaining loud and clear about the ongoing worker shortages. These modifications to the Express Entry process will guarantee that they have access to the qualified workers they require to develop and succeed. In addition, by increasing the number of candidates who are fluent in French, we can aid businesses that are experiencing a labor shortage and secure the survival of French-speaking communities. Simply said, the immigration system in Canada has never been more sensitive to the nation’s social or economic needs.”   How selection category under Express Entry created? BC invited over 190 candidates in the new BC PNP draws

On May 30, 2023, the Government of British Columbia issued new invitations under the BC PNP draws and invited qualified Skills and Immigration candidates.  In the general draw, the province invited 151 candidates. The minimum score for candidates invited to this draw was 85-107 points.  The province issued 26 ITAs to candidates under the childcare-targeted draw for early childhood educators (NOC 42202).  In the Healthcare-targeted draw, BC invited 14 candidates who scored 60 points.  In addition, the province invited fewer than five candidates working in other priority occupations.  In total, British Columbia issued up to 196 ITAs in this draw. This year, British Columbia has already invited 4,593 candidates. Canada is a highly attractive option for international students

According to a recent study by IDP Education, Canada is a highly attractive option for international students, with over 25% of survey respondents selecting it over other major destination countries like the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Post-study work is a key factor for 63% of students globally, with 72% saying they would apply for a work visa after graduation.  The availability of post-study work visas is a major consideration for 61% of students intending to study in Canada, with even higher percentages for Nigerian, Vietnamese, and Ghanaian students. 63% of the 20,000 students whose completed part in the survey believe working after graduation is the primary determinant of where they decided to pursue their education, and 72% mentioned they would apply for a work visa after they graduated.   The survey showed that 61% of students who intended to study in Canada gave the availability of the post-study work visa significant consideration, with the exception of both the largest markets of India and China. This increased to 63% for students from Nigeria, 75% for students from Vietnam, and 58% for students from Ghana. Christine Wach, IDP Connect’s director of client partnerships for North America, is quoted in the report. Students “see Canada as a welcoming, affordable, and safe place to study with good job opportunities available upon graduation,” the researcher stated, using the survey findings.” In addition, the study found that 53% of students place a high priority on job opportunities after graduation when selecting a location. Other research findings showed that 43% of students were seeking part-time job options while studying, and 61% of students claimed that receiving a high-quality education played a role when making their choice. During the academic year, foreign students studying in Canada are permitted to work up to 20 hours per week without requiring a work permit. If students return to full-time study the following semester, they are allowed to work full-time during the winter and summer holidays. According to the study, 81% of respondents were either already working or intended to work part-time while they were in university. Graduates can become eligible for permanent residence in Canada through the Canadian experience class in Express Entry by acquiring skilled Canadian work experience in TEER categories 0, 1, or 3 through the PGWP Program. Depending on how long the international student’s program of study is, PGWPs are a one-time-use permit that is valid for up to three years.   Canada Extends PGWPs of International Graduates to Work in Canada for Longer On March 17, 2023, Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), announced that international graduates with expired or expiring post-graduation work permits (PGWP) could apply for an additional work permit for up to 18 months.  Starting April 6, 2023, PGWP holders who want to stay in Canada longer and those whose PGWPs have already expired in 2023 will be eligible for a new permit. Foreign nationals who have exceeded the 90-day restoration period will also be able to restore their status and receive interim work authorization.  Foreign nationals who were eligible for the 2022 PGWP facilitative measure and whose PGWP had already expired in 2023 will also be eligible to apply for an additional 18-month work permit. Even if the 90-day restoration period ends, those who have expired work permits are able to obtain their status restored. They will additionally receive an interim work authorization while waiting for their new work permit application to be processed. Canada welcomed 13,500 new citizens during the citizenship week

Canada welcomed over 13,500 new citizens in 105 ceremonies across all provinces and territories during the citizenship week, almost double the average number of new citizens welcomed weekly throughout the year. Canada exceeded its citizenship goals in 2022, with nearly 364,000 new citizens.  The Citizenship Application Tracker was launched in May 2021 to streamline the application process, while online application processes have been made available for some clients. Since the launch of the new online testing platform in November 2020, nearly 546,000 people have taken citizenship tests online. IRCC is now inviting over 5,000 applicants every week to complete the test. IRCC issued over 2,500 IEC invitations over the last week

Over the three weeks, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held new draws in the pools of International Experience Canada (IEC) and sent out over 2500 IEC invitations. From May 26 to May 28, Canada invited 2,657 young foreigners to apply for an IEC open work permit. If a foreign person completes one of the IEC programs successfully, they will be qualified to apply for a work permit in Canada without the need for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). With the acceptance of work permits, IEC permits temporary stay in Canada for a maximum of one year. IEC work permits are approved using a system of random draws. Not all foreign nationals who demonstrate an interest in the program will be selected. Success chances are based on the quota for each program and country. There are three distinct programs run by the IEC. Interested applicants should confirm the requirements for the various programs even if IEC has general standards. On May 24, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) updated the number of Ukrainian newcomers arriving in Canada under the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET) through CUAET Program.  According to the latest update, between January 1, 2022, and May 14, 2023, 30,020 Ukrainians arrived in Canada by land, and 192,390 Ukrainians reached by air.  Between March 17, 2022, and May 6, 2023, IRCC received 1,028,223 applications under the CUAET.  In total, IRCC has approved 720,922 applications from Ukrainian nationals. From March 17, 2022, to May 6, 2023, 154,981 Ukrainian arrived in Canada under the CUAET program.   About the CUAET Program One of the many unique programs the Canadian government took to assist the people of Ukraine is the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for emergency travel (CUAET). It offers free, extended temporary status to Ukrainians and their families, enabling them to live, work, and study in Canada until it is safe for them to return home.   Before, during, and after their immigration to Canada, Ukrainians and their families continue to receive support from settlement organizations and non-governmental organizations across the country. Local settlement service providers will continue to recommend CUAET clients apply for temporary housing and support help. Benefits and Features of the Program Ukrainians and their relatives migrating to Canada from abroad can apply for a free visitor visa and might be given permission to stay in Canada for three years rather than the usual six-month period. have the opportunity to submit a free open work permit application along with their visa application, allowing them to find work as soon as possible. will, in ordinary, non-complex cases, have their electronic visa application processed within 14 days of receiving a complete application.
