AAIP announced updates to Alberta Express Entry stream selections

On January 18, 2023, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) announced new Alberta Express Entry stream selection updates. In 2023, the AAIP will issue invitations to candidates under the Alberta Express Entry Stream, using the combination of high-demand occupations and immediate family ties as selection factors.    With the introduction of this change, candidates will increase the likelihood of selection and receipt of a Notification of Interest letter under the Alberta Express Entry Stream, depending on their primary occupation and family ties to the province.   Alberta Express Entry Stream Criteria Change for 2023 A portion of the Alberta EE Stream draws in 2023 will conduct draws from the Alberta Express Entry Stream and allow applicants to submit a completed application using a combination of the two selection criteria. IRCC invited 5,500 candidates in the Express Entry draw of 2023. On January 18, 2023, IRCC held an unexpected the Express Entry draw of 2023, making it the second in two consecutive weeks. Express Entry draw #238 issued 5,500 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to all-program candidates under Express Entry. In round #238, the cut-off score was 490 points, 17 points fewer than the previous draw! The tie-breaking rule for this round was November 24, 2022, at 21:14:59 UTC.    As of January 18, 2023, there are 240,013 profiles registered in the Express Entry pool, 3,242 fewer than the previous update. In 2023, Canada issued 11,000 ITAs through Express Entry, and this is the quickest Express Entry start ever since the system was launched.   There was no particular program targeted by the draw of January 18, 2023. This means that candidates from the Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and Federal Skilled Trades (FSTP) were eligible to receive invitations. A minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 490 points was also required for invited candidates. The difference from the previous draw is 17 points.   Details of the Express Entry draw of 2023 As the second Express Entry round of invitations in the same week, the draw was surprising. On January 11, the IRCC had just conducted a draw for which it had also invited 5,500 candidates. The CRS cut-off score decreased by 17 points between draws, falling to 507 for last week’s draw.    The score for this draw was originally published by IRCC as 507, but it has now been revised to the accurate 490. The first draw since November 23, 2022, was held last week. Every two weeks on Wednesdays, Express Entry draws often actually occur. BC invited up to 192 candidates in the new BC PNP draw

In the new BC PNP draw that was held on January 17, 2023, the Government of British Columbia issued new invitations under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program and invited qualified Skills and Immigration candidates. In the general draw, the province invited 154 candidates. The minimum score for candidates invited to this draw was 82-105 points.    The province issued 18 ITAs to candidates under the childcare-targeted draw for early childhood educators (NOC 42202). In the Healthcare-targeted draw, BC invited 15 candidates. Additionally, fewer than 5 invitations have been issued for other priority occupations (NOCs 31103, 32104). In total, the province invited up to 192 candidates for this draw. Canada plans to clear the visitor visa backlog by February 2023

To reduce the visitor visa backlog, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is planning to decrease the Visitor visa applications backlog.  The government is considering decisive measures by lifting some eligibility criteria for nearly half a million applications. This necessary action will significantly shorten wait times while allowing more people to visit Canada. An IRCC memo revealed two potential strategies to reduce the number of visitor visa backlog applications.    IRCC New steps To Clear Visitor Visa Backlog  An internal IRCC memo from December 2022 that’s been obtained by The Globe and Mail discusses two ways for decreasing the number of applications for visitor visas. The first approach would involve processing an estimated 195,000 applications in bulk,  while the second option considers relaxing eligibility criteria for as many as 450,000 candidates. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada is aiming to significantly reduce or remove its backlog of visitor visa applications by February and is ready to take “extreme measures” to do so, according to a draft copy from December. As of early December, a portion of the total number of applications for temporary resident visas was in the system: more than 700,000. As of the end of last year, there were more than two million immigration applications to be processed, including those for permanent residency, work permits, and study visas. OINP invited 1,252 candidates under the first skilled trades stream of 2023

On January 13, 2023, Ontario invited 1,252 candidates under the skilled trades stream of the Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP). The CRS score range of the invited candidates was between 336-506 points. Candidates, who created their profiles in the Express Entry system between January 13, 2022, to January 13, 2023, were considered by OINP in this draw for 42 NOCs.   Candidates who received a notification of interest do not need to contact the program and can apply to the stream. The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program has an immigration stream called the Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream (OINP). It allows foreign nationals with relevant skilled trades work experience in Ontario to apply to live and work permanently in Ontario. Before you can apply to be nominated by the Ontario government for permanent residence, you must have a valid profile in the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Express Entry system and get a Notification of Interest from Ontario.   What are the requirements for Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades stream?  job experience. a current license or certificate (if applicable). Manitoba issued 322 invitations under the MPNP Latest draw On January 12, 2023, Manitoba held a new invitation round in the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP Latest draw). In round #165, the MPNP issued 260 LAAs in the Skilled Workers in Manitoba stream. The minimum score for the LAA in this category was 734 points, 16 points fewer than the previous draw.    In the Skilled Workers Overseas stream, Manitoba issued 20 LAAs. The lowest score in the SWO category was 713 points, 2 points more than in round #164.   In addition, Manitoba invited 42 candidates in the International Education Stream.    Manitoba has issued LAAs to 322 candidates, including 27 Express Entry candidates for this round.   Last year in 2022, MPNP invited 7,651 candidates, and 1,964 received invitations in the Express Entry.   What are the results of MPNP Latest draw? IRCC proposed new Express Entry categories On January 12, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted public consultations with stakeholders to adjust the Express Entry application management system in response to Canada’s economic needs and labor shortages.    To accomplish this goal, the department has crafted Express Entry categories that prioritize specific credentials such as educational background, work experience, and understanding of official languages over the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.    IRCC is actively seeking public input regarding selection priorities for immigration that could alleviate chronic economic and labor force shortages. All contributions must be submitted by January 16, 2023, to be considered.    Through the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, or the Federal Skilled Trades Program, skilled workers may apply for permanent residence under the Express Entry system.   Possible Express Entry Categories The IRCC is considering adding a category for work experience in specific industries or occupations that have a chronic labor shortage. During the consultation process, the IRCC asked that respondents identify areas of the labor market where there are chronic shortages of workers and make recommendations for how immigration can complement Canada’s workforce force.   The most popular occupations invited to apply for permanent residence through Express Entry between 2019 and 2021 were: food service supervisors. administrative assistants. financial auditors and accountants. retail sales supervisors. software engineers and designers. professional occupations in advertising, marketing, and public relations cooks. computer programmers and interactive media developers. information systems analysts and consultants. user support technicians. restaurant and food service managers. administrative officers.   Getting international graduates to permanent residence  According to the IRCC, an Express Entry selection category for international student graduates could more effectively address critical shortages. For example, graduates from Designated Learning Institutions with a degree or diploma in a field that is in demand could be included in a new Express Entry category.   Since they are proficient in at least one official language, hold Canadian academic qualifications, and have worked in Canada, international student graduates are ideal candidates for permanent economic immigration, according to the IRCC  they will be able to support Canada’s economy for many years to come.   Converting temporary foreign workers to permanent residents.  Express Entry could respond more quickly to continuing economic demands if it included a selection category for transferring talented temporary foreign workers, similar to how it does with international students. Temporary workers are excellent candidates for permanent residency because they might find employment in their fields. On January 10, 2023, the Government of Ontario held employer job offer foreign worker stream draws of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).  The province issued 402 targeted invitations to apply (ITAs) to skilled trades occupations and 2 ITAs to candidates who may qualify for the federal Economic Mobility Pathways Project (EMPP). All invitees have their profiles created in the Express Entry system between November 22, 2022, to January 10, 2023. The minimum score for the targeted skilled trades occupations was 35. Foreign workers both inside and outside of Canada are eligible for the Foreign Workers stream. Before submitting an application to be nominated for permanent residency by the Ontario government, you must first register in the OINP’s Expression of Interest System and obtain an invitation to apply. The next step is to submit an application to the federal government through Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada if you are nominated (IRCC). British Columbia issued 150 invitations On January 10, 2023, in the latest BC PNP draws. British Columbia issued new invitations in the Skilled Worker – International Graduate categories of the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP).  According to the latest BC PNP draws In the Tech-targeted draw, BC issued 123 invitations with a minimum score of 90 points.    In the Childcare-targeted draw for early childhood educators (NOC 42202), the province invited up to 5 candidates who scored 60 points. In the Healthcare-targeted draw, the province issued 17 invitations. Additionally, fewer than 5 invitations have been issued for other priority occupations (NOCs 31103, 32104). The province invited up to 150 candidates whose score was between 60-90 points. Newfoundland and Labrador to recruit physicians and nurses from Ireland

On January 9, 2023, Newfoundland and Labrador announced that the provincial government was preparing to recruit physicians and nurses from Ireland to fill vacancies in the province. Ireland has been selected due to its physician training standards being comparable to those in Newfoundland and Labrador, along with the vast opportunity for recruiting nurses who are eligible for licensure.    The province’s Ministry of Health and Community Services will send a team to Ireland to raise awareness of Newfoundland and Labrador as an ideal immigration destination.    The team headed for Ireland this week will be headed by the Honorable Tom Osborne, the minister of health and community services. In order to promote Newfoundland and Labrador as attractive immigration destinations, the team will visit a number of cities. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador, the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Regional Health Authorities will all have representatives on the team.   The team will look for hiring options for nurses who fulfill equivalent license requirements because Ireland’s training standards for doctors are equivalent to those in Newfoundland and Labrador. Additionally, a large number of excellent medical and nursing schools were picked for the region.
